Apple has revealed a smaller iPad, which has a 7.9″ screen and can be held in one hand. The iPad mini will be released on November 2nd and carries a price tag of £269 upwards to £599 for the top model.
Going up against the Amazon Kindle Fire, Google Nexus 7 and the newly released Microsoft Surface, thought the Surface is a 10.6″ tablet, so is not really ideal for holding in one hand. It is questionable that you could actually operate a 7″ tablet with just one hand though. My hands are quite large and I find it impossible to operate my Nexus 7 with one hand. A smartphone can be used with one hand for simple operations but anything more complex requires two hands.
Any which way, our digital publishing service for the iPad will continue onto the iPad mini, which may prove to be a shining light to companies holding back from putting their material onto a tablet due to fear of deeper market saturation. Of course it will sell in the millions, just like the iPad did and is at the “golden” price point for a lot of people.
